Call for Sleep Women Study Participants
We are specifically looking for healthy premenopausal women to participate in a study to better understand how the relationship between sleep and several aspects of health. THERE WILL BE NO MONETARY COSTS FOR PARTICIPATION.

We are looking for:

  • Health premenopausal women (18-55 yrs)
  • BMI of 25 kg/m2 or lower or 30 kg/m2 or higher
  • Not pregnant or lactating
  • Nonsmokers
  • Normal sleep habits
Certain extreme dietary practices, exercise levels, disease conditions, medication use, or neurological disorders may disqualify some candidates from participation.
  • Participants will receive $100 cash for participation.
  • Each participant will complete two separate sleep conditions separated by at least one week (condition 1 (approx. 8 hours sleep); condition 2 (<5 hours sleep))
  • During each condition, participants will be asked to report to both the Human Performance Laboratory and the Psychology Laboratory for testing or to complete other nonlaboratory assessments, including body composition, physical activity, diet and related correlates, brain activity, mood, health-related quality of life, and cognition.

     Call for Sweat Gland Study Participants
This study investigates how the body controls skin blood flow and sweating in response to electrical stimulation of skin nerves.
  • 18-35 years old
  • NO history of cardiovascular disease
  • NO history of diabetes
  • Currently NOT taking any prescription medications
  • Available for 4-5 hours straight sometime during the week (Monday through Saturday)
Qualified Participants will:
  • Have two small needles inserted into the skin of the forearm
  • Small electrical charge will be given to the skin to activate the sweat gland or blood vessel
  • Spend 4-5 hours completing the study
  • Receive $10 per hour for participation (about 4 hours)

Call for Thigh Subcutaneous Fat Study Participants
This study investigates the effect of subcutaneous fat on the increase and duration of temperature change in muscle at 1, 1.5, and 2 cm below the skin surface.  Your participation in the study will take approximately 1 hour total.  You will have to come to the lab on two separate days.

We are specifically looking for Males or Females ages 18–40 years

  • You will report to the 123 RB wearing shorts and a T-shirt

  • You will visit the lab on two days:

Day 1

▪ Read and sign an informed consent form,

▪ Get answers to any questions about the study,

▪ If you meet the inclusion criteria, have your right thigh examined via diagnostic ultrasound to see if you meet the adipose thickness criteria to continue in the study,

▪ Sign up for an appointment to come on second day

 

Day 2

▪ Lay face-up on exam table and be given 10-minute ultrasound treatment

▪ Your intramuscular temperature will be monitored by a 23-gauge needle microprobe placed 2 cm into your right thigh during treatment and for 30 minutes following treatment

  • You will receive $10 for your participation after you complete the entire study (you will not receive partial compensation if you do not complete the study)
