Graduate Student Handbook

Athletic Training
This program is designed to build upon the theoretical and clinical competencies developed as an undergraduate preparing for the BOC certification examination.  It allows students to further develop theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, become comfortable with and critically evaluate current athletic training-related literature, and conduct clinically relevant athletic training research.  This is a two-year program.

  Exercise Sciences
This specialization prepares students for meaningful employment in various exercise science-related fields; subsequent entrance into doctoral programs leading to academic positions in teaching and research; subsequent admission into a health care professional school of their choice.  This program provides an environment where knowledge and practice unite in a learning experience that prepares students for continued education or employment, professional service opportunities, and to become leaders among their peers in their chosen profession.

Exercise Physiology
This program provides students with advanced training in exercise physiology.  Students are prepared to assume leadership roles in the broad field of professional exercise science (i.e., corporate fitness, personal training), to enter medical programs (i.e., to become a doctor, physical therapist, physician's assistant), or to successfully pursue further education at the doctoral level.  Course work, research, and writing experiences in the major are designed to expand the student's appreciation of the scientific bases of exercise physiology.

  Health Promotion
Students graduating with this degree most often become employed as directors of corporate, hospital, and community-based health promotion programs.  Some take teaching positions at community colleges and small state colleges, while others find employment in cardiac rehabilitation centers.  This is a two-year program.
